As rumors surround the Boston Red Sox regarding Monday’s trade deadline, there are many players on the team who could see a new home, whether it be by the deadline or the offseason. While it remains to be seen if the Red Sox make a trade or not, there is an update on the status of Jarren Duran.
The past has seen Boston hold back on trading the 29-year-old, but according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the team is expected to deal the outfielder this offseason. Obviously meaning that Duran will have a chance to have a productive rest of the season, though the results in 2026 have been. underwhelming to say the least.
“The Boston Red Sox, who had resisted trade overtures for outfielder Jarren Duran in the past, now are expected to trade him this winter,” Nightengale wrote.
So far this season for the Red Sox, Duran has recorded a .199 batting average to go along with 13 home runs and 56 RBIs in 103 games and 396 at-bats.

The Red Sox’s trade activity ahead of the deadline has featured the transaction of Connelly Early to the Washington Nationals for infielder Curtis Mead. ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan would say on “Threads” that “there will be more” when it comes to Boston making deals, though in another post, he would say that Duran’s value “isn’t very high.”
“Not sure how big of a splash, but they’re too engaged in other places to think something won’t come together,” Passan wrote last Monday.
“Duran’s value in teams’ models isn’t very high. It would be more about the prospects than him,” Passan continued on a potential trade down the line if it involved Duran.
Mark Feinsand of MLB.com would say on June 25 that a trade for Duran would feature a low return for the Red Sox, and with the team having control of him for two more years, the hope is that he could uptick his value and trade him in the offseason. It remains to be seen what happens with Boston and Duran.
