Between Friday and Sunday, 16 high school basketball and hockey teams were crowned state champions.
It took some dynamic, and downright unbelievable performances, for student-athletes to make sure their teams walked away from either the Tsongas Center or TD Garden with a state title in hand.
Here is a look at some of the top performances from state championship weekend:
Boys Basketball
— Brody Bumila continued his dominant postseason, scoring 36 points and adding 21 rebounds in Bishop Feehan’s 66-63 win over Central Catholic in the Div. 1 state championship. On the losing side, Javi Lopez scored 30 points for the Raiders.
— Rolky Brea-Arias led with 14 points while Jake Fortier contributed 13 in St. Mary’s (Lynn)’s 59-58 victory over Masconomet in the Div. 2 state title game. The Chieftains were led by Jimmy Farrell, who scored a game-high 18 points in the one-point loss.
— Elian Rodriguez led with 27 points and seven rebounds while Nate Lane scored 12 points and added eight rebounds in Salem’s 57-51 victory over Hanover in the Div. 3 state final. The Hawks were led by Ryan Muschler, who scored 22 points and had 12 rebounds, and Cole Madden, who scored 14 points and added 10 rebounds.
— Aaron Cote led with 31 points, Mallikhi Tavares added 20 and Amari Rose contributed 16 points in Wareham’s 80-73 win over Georgetown in the Div. 4 state championship. For the Royals, Jomar Terrero scored 18 points and Brendan Loewen added 16.
— Qwanell Bradley scored 33 points and added 22 rebounds in Hoosac Valley’s 91-76 win over Holbrook in the Div. 5 state final. On the losing side, Allen Brown scored 40 points for Holbrook.
Girls Basketball
— Teegan Lanpher led with 22 points, Jaelynn Scott dropped 11 to lead Wachusett to a second consecutive Div. 1 state championship with a 55-47 victory over Springfield Central. On the losing side, Zi’Yan Wallace led the Golden Eagles with 25 points.
— Abby Broderick led all scorers with 25 points while Tess Baacke added 17 and Naya Annigeri contributed 16 in Medfield’s 72-38 victory over St. Mary’s (Lynn) in the Div. 2 state final. This helped the Warriors capture a third consecutive Div. 2 title and cap off a 25-0 season.
— Celia Neilson led the way with 19 points and 14 rebounds while Caitlin Boyle scored 14 points and had 10 rebounds in Bishop Fenwick’s 49-44 win over Pittsfield in the Div. 3 state championship.
— Olivia Athas, Cara Dean, Kate Phillips and Taylor Bullough all scored 10 points to lead South Hadley to a 49-38 win over Frontier in the Div. 4 state championship. On the losing side, Frontier was led by Skyler Steele’s 19 points.
— Phoebe Carroll led the way with 23 points and 11 rebounds in Hopedale’s 48-35 victory over Drury in the Div. 5 state championship.
Boys Hockey
— Luke Latulippe scored the winning goal in double overtime while Wolfie Zinger added a goal and George Ramsey registered 28 saves in Pope Francis’ 2-1 victory over St. John’s (Shrewsbury) in the Div. 1 state championship. On the losing side, Colin McCarthy made 40 saves for the Pioneers.
— Cam Guerschuny scored the winning goal and Ryan Elrick had the other to lead Canton to a 2-1 victory over Tewksbury in the Div. 2 state final. Kevin Andriolo had the lone goal for the Redmen, with Tyler Bourgea picking up the assist and the 199th point of his career.
— Ryan Kisiel and Henry Phillips each scored two goals while Joe Galvin, Brodie Kiley and Shane Fanning scored the other tallies in Hanover’s 7-5 win over Medfield in the Div. 3 state championship. On the losing side, Luke Dickson scored a hat-trick while Max Abramson and Jake Cragan added goals.
— Blake Hannon and Gavin Werling each scored two goals, Andrew Archer added another in Littleton/Bromfield’s 5-1 win over St. Bernard’s in the Div. 4 state title game. Ryder Testagrossa added the lone goal for the Bernardians.
Girls Hockey
— Sammy Ryan scored the game-winning goal, Ella Duffy added an empty-netter and Lydia Barnes made 21 saves in Methuen/Tewksbury’s 2-0 win over Archbishop Williams in the Div. 1 state championship.
— Sabrina Stone and Maeve Lovett found the back of the net in Milton’s 2-1 victory over King Phillip in the Div. 2 state final. On the losing side, Warriors goalie Kiki Lynch registered 35 saves and Ella Morgan scored the goal.
