The Buffalo Sabres fell in Game 5 against the Boston Bruins. Buffalo had the chance to eliminate their Atlantic Division rival from the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Instead, David Pastrnak scored in double overtime to give his team one more chance. And it gave Lindy Ruff’s Sabres a chance to evaluate their performance.

Ruff is no stranger to the Stanley Cup Playoffs. In fact, when Buffalo made its lone Stanley Cup Final appearance in 1999, it was Ruff behind the bench. However, the current iteration of the Sabres have not played under these circumstances.

Buffalo can once again eliminate Boston with a win in Game 6. A loss, however, forces a Game 7 back in Boston. Pressure will be a tangible thing over these next two games, but the Sabres head coach believes the shoe is on the other foot in this case.

“I just feel now pressure kind of reverts back to them in their building, and they haven’t played well in their building,” Ruff said, via The Times Herald reporter Bill Hoppe. “And we get to go there and play in their building where we’ve won two games.”

The Bruins were a good team during the regular season at home. They finished the season with a record of 29-11-1 at TD Garden in Boston, working out to a .707 winning percentage. However, as the Sabres coach pointed out, this has not translated to the postseason. The Bruins lost both of their home games so far this series.

Boston is the more experienced team, but Buffalo has an experienced coach to lean on. It will certainly be interesting to see how everything breaks down when Game 6 kicks off on Friday night.
