March Madness may be over for college basketball, but the chaos of the college baseball season is just beginning.

Week 8 of the 2026 season brought much-anticipated chaos and potential changes in the major polls. While UCLA remained dominant and pushed its winning streak to 27 straight games — the Bruins are just seven wins away from tying the all-time Division I record of 34 — behind them, a handful of top-25 teams experienced a rough week.

No. 2 Texas, No. 6 Florida State, No. 8 Mississippi State, No. 9 Alabama, No. 16 Central Florida and No. 17 Nebraska were among the top 25 teams this week to post losing records. The Bulldogs lost their home series to rival Florida, which will also impact both programs in the rankings.

Meanwhile, the No. 3 Yellow Jackets’ dominant sweep of the sixth-ranked Seminoles will help their status in a positive way. In the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, the top three is now the Bruins at No. 1, the Yellow Jackets at No. 2 and North Carolina at No. 3.
