    A look at Group A and the qualification scenarios

    The 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers (Africa Zone) will resume in October, with matches counting for the 9th and 10th rounds of the group stage.

    Group A update

    Egypt are leading the way in Group A with a haul of 20 points. The Pharaohs have won 6 matches and drawn 2. They have taken a significant step towards booking their ticket to the 2026 World Cup finals.

    They are five points clear of their closest rivals, Burkina Faso, while Sierra Leone, sitting in third, trail by eight points.

    Group A – Matchdays 9 and 10

    Qualification scenarios

    Egypt qualification scenarios

    – 3 points from their next two matches against Djibouti or Guinea-Bissau.

    – Draws in their next two matches against Djibouti or Guinea-Bissau, provided Burkina Faso do not collect 6 points from their next two games.

    – Defeats in both matches against Djibouti or Guinea-Bissau, provided that Burkina Faso earn only 4 points from their next two games.

    – 6 points from their next two matches against Sierra Leone and Ethiopia and Egypt losing both of their upcoming games against Djibouti and Guinea-Bissau.
