Team USA is seeking its first World Baseball Classic championship in nine years Tuesday night against Venezuela.

One of USA’s stars, Chicago Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong, figured there’s no such thing as too much good luck when chasing a title. That’s why he picked Olympic hero Jack Hughes’ jersey to wear for pregame activities.

Every Team USA baseball player will don game-worn USA hockey jerseys before Tuesday’s game in an effort to link up with the success of the gold-medal winners. Crow-Armstrong and Hughes are partners with Fanatics. The apparel company delivered the jerseys to Team USA, per ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

“I just wanted to rep my guy, Hughesy,” Crow-Armstrong said, per the Talkin’ Baseball X account. “We just wanted to … let those guys know they inspired us a little bit.”

Hughes scored the winning goal for the Americans in the gold-medal game against Canada at the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics. The thrilling game capped Team USA’s first men’s ice hockey gold medal since 1980.

The United States became the first country to sweep the men’s, women’s and paralympics golds in ice hockey during a single Winter Games. All three wins came against Canada. In the WBC, Team USA overcame Canada in the quarterfinal, 5-3, before defeating the Dominican Republic, 2-1, in a tense semifinal contest.

Team USA and Venezuela will square off for the WBC championship at 8 p.m. ET Tuesday at loanDepot Park in Miami. The game will be on Fox and the Fox Sports app.
