As we approach the midway point of the 2026 high school football season in Lafayette Parish and its surrounding areas, things only continue to heat up.
For some teams, the first four weeks was everything they hoped for, with seven area teams still undefeated entering Week 5. Now, the question is: can those same teams keep the winning going while the seven winless teams look to snag their first wins this week?

No matter who the opponent, stars will continue to be born with teams duking it out all with the hopes of churning out wins. As games begin to hold more weight, there is no shortage of storylines to follow in the 337 prep football scene.

A 3-1 clash
Before kicking off district play, Lafayette Christian Academy has one more tune up as it hits the road to face Opelousas. Both teams enter the matchup 3-1 on the season with LCA being shutout against Alexandria and Opelousas losing last week against Westgate. Both will be itching to get their fourth win.

Leading the Tigers this season is a stingy defense that held the first two opponents scoreless to start the year. The Knights have had two different quarterbacks at the helm of their offense, so far, in Ty Hills and Kyzer White. White led them past Teurlings Catholic in Week 4, and will hope to do the same this week.

Can anybody slow Notre Dame down?
The Pios escaped with a 22-21 victory over Catholic-N.I. in Week 4 to put them at 4-0 entering week 5. This week they host Cecilia, which comes into the Thursday night matchup with momentum after shutting out St. Martinville.

Last week, Braylon Calais stepped up as quarterback for the Bulldogs, throwing for two touchdowns and rushing for another. Notre Dame will rely on its rushing attack led by William Lavergne and Braxton Meche.
Score prediction: Notre Dame wins 35-33
A new Class 5A District 3 showdown
For the first time as district foes, St. Thomas More and Lafayette will face off for what should be a showdown. The Cougars are riding high after taking down the previous top dogs of the district, Acadiana beating the Wreckin’ Rams 27-20. On the flip side, the Mighty Lions are hungry for their first district win after falling short against Barbe.

Lamar commit Jaden Celestine will look to run through STM’s defense after finishing with 139 total yards and two touchdowns last week. Sophomore quarterback Grayson Hemard along with a senior led backfield, STM is aiming for a 2-0 start to district play.

Northside football looking for some homecoming magic
There’s no better time than homecoming to snag your first win of the season, especially for the winless Vikings. They have come close for the past two weeks, losing by three points to Bunkie in Week 4 and by two points to Ascension Episcopal in Week 3. Can homecoming festivities bring an end to the losing streak for the Vikings?

St. Martinville won’t make it easy as it faced adversity, as well, to start this season. The Tigers are looking to bounce back from being shutout last week against a tough Cecilia squad. They will look to spoil Northside’s festivities for their third win of the season.
