CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College men’s hockey team suffered a 4-3 defeat to Northeastern in overtime on Saturday evening at Kelley Rink. Alex Pelletier recorded a three-point performance with a goal and two assists, while Dean Letourneau and Jake Sondreal each added goals for the Eagles.
Boston College drops to 2-4-1 overall and 1-1-0 in Hockey East. Northeastern improves to 3-2-0 overall and 1-2-0 in league play.
The Eagles, similar to Friday night, opened the scoring early in the contest. BC had an early power play opportunity and took advantage as Pelletier found a wide open Letourneau for the wrist shot into the top corner of the net to go ahead 1-0.
Northeastern scored twice during the middle part of the second period to take a 2-1 lead, taking advantage of two different power play opportunities.
BC responded with two goals of their own later in the second period just 1:04 apart from each other. Boston College scored just 13 seconds into an extra-man opportunity as Pelletier picked up the loose puck at the net-front and wrapped it around the Northeastern goaltender for his first collegiate goal.
Just over one minute later, Pelletier nearly scored again on the rush, but his shot was saved and Sondreal was right there for the rebound to go back-handed to the top of the net to give BC its second lead of the night.
The Huskies answered with an early goal in the third period to tie the game at 3-3.
Neither time could find the breakthrough, sending the game to overtime. Northeastern scored midway through the 5:00 period to claim a 4-3 victory.
