Anton Forsberg starts against Boston as the Kings lean into an 11-forward, seven-defenseman look — Bruins Vs Kings

The Los Angeles Kings are not pretending this is a comfortable night. Not after scoring just two total goals in a pair of 2-1 overtime defeats against Boston last season, and not with a five-game road trip waiting in the wings. So when the puck drops at 6 PM, the most interesting part of Bruins Vs Kings may be the structure Los Angeles is rolling out: Anton Forsberg in goal, 11 forwards, and seven defensemen.

That is a clear message. The Kings are looking for a little more flexibility, a little more spark, and perhaps a little less predictability after scoring only three goals in their last three games. This is not the shape of a team trying to grind out a pretty win. It is the shape of a team trying to find a solution before the schedule gets harsher.

Forsberg gets the nod after a strong relief outing

Forsberg will make the start after a strong showing in relief last time out versus Edmonton, and the numbers explain why this is not a wild gamble. In six career appearances, he has a 4-1-1 record, a.935 save percentage, and a 2.16 goals-against average. Those are the sort of figures that justify giving him another look when the Kings need stability more than ceremony.

It also helps that the opponent is hardly a mystery. Boston opened its 2026-27 season by winning six of its first eight games, and it beat Anaheim 4-2 on October 16. The Bruins are in form, they are organized, and they arrive with a familiar edge under Marco Sturm, the former Kings assistant coach. This is not the night to hope things just sort themselves out.

Top-line changes show what Los Angeles is chasing

The projected changes are just as revealing as the goaltending decision. Alex Laferriere is expected to be part of a new look alongside Artemi Panarin and Adrian Kempe, a combination that asks for pace, pressure, and cleaner puck management. Laferriere has already put the point of it plainly enough: those are two players who need the puck on their sticks all game, while his own value comes from getting in on the forecheck and winning pucks back.

That is the blueprint here. The Kings are trying to manufacture more sustained pressure and avoid the kind of dry spell that has dragged their recent results down into the mud. A seven-defenseman setup gives them another layer of insurance, but it also says something else: they are not entirely sold on brute-force repetition up front. They want a different rhythm.

The Bruins, though, are not likely to make that easy. Boston already showed against Anaheim that it can lean on dangerous combinations such as Geekie-Zacha-Pastrnak and Khusnutdinov-Minten-Peterka, and David Pastrnak is always the kind of problem that punishes any team that gets loose for even a few shifts. If the Kings are serious about turning this into a useful home result before the road trip begins, they will need Forsberg to hold his level and the new forward mix to look like more than a theory.

In other words, this is a practical test, not a glamorous one. The Kings need more than effort and a decent save percentage tonight. They need signs that the lineup tweaks can actually drag them out of a scoring rut. Otherwise, the road trip starts with the same awkward question hanging over them: who, exactly, is going to score enough?
