Drew Lock played well for the Seattle Seahawks in their 13-10 win over the New England Patriots in Week 1, stepping in for Sam Darnold and helping guide the team through a tight opener.
Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski gave Lock a “B+” for his play against New England.
“Drew Lock was thrust into the lineup and did exactly what’s needed of a backup quarterback unexpected called to service,” Sobleski said. “He didn’t lose his team the game by making significant mistakes and did enough to ensure a victory.”
Lock entered after Darnold left the game injured. The veteran Lock responded with a composed performance, completing 16 of 22 passes for 187 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions. He also added 13 rushing yards while keeping Seattle’s offense on schedule.
Lock’s ability to avoid turnovers proved particularly important in a defensive contest decided by three points. He made sound decisions and produced the touchdown that gave Seattle the offensive lift it needed.
The B+ grade reflected an encouraging showing from a quarterback who was not expected to carry the offense at the outset. Seattle’s victory offered Lock a strong early opportunity to show that he is capable of providing dependable production for the team.
