14-year-old Phoenix pro pickleball player on fast track

Kelly Goodnow of Phoenix was 12 when she tagged along with her mom to a pickleball clinic. She is now among the faces of the future of the sport.

The Arizona Republic is looking for a talented high school intern who can produce multimedia content as part of our local high school sports coverage this fall. The successful candidate will bring local coverage to life through short-form video, social-first storytelling and written reporting for The Republic and its website, azcentral.com.

This is a paid position that requires after-school flexibility, some nights or weekends and travel to games in or near your local community. Some work may also take place in our Phoenix newsroom. The internship is part of a USA TODAY Network program highlighting high school sports coverage from high school students across the nation.

The program, sponsored by T-Mobile, will give students real-world experience in writing, video creation and social media content, working with Republic editors in Phoenix. As part of the program, a select group of interns could be featured in a short-form, documentary-style video that chronicles how they covered their beats as high school students.
