Although there will be no 2026 Boston Portuguese Festival due to Boston’s City Hall Plaza being unavailable in June to host FIFA World Cup Fan Zone programming, BPF organizers are not sitting idly.

“Even in a year without the main festival, it is important that we continue to bring people together,” said Boston Portuguese Festival Board Director Paulo Pinto.

On Saturday, June 6, BPF organizers will host “Fado & Wine Tasting Celebration,” a special fundraising event taking place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Multicultural Arts Center, located at 41 Second St., Cambridge.

This celebration will serve as both a cultural gathering and a key fundraising initiative to support the future of the festival.

“Events like this allow us to maintain our presence in the community and keep the spirit of Portuguese culture alive as we prepare for our return to Boston in 2027,” said Pinto.

Held as part of the broader Day of Portugal celebrations, the event will feature a curated selection of Portuguese wines from various regions, generously provided by MS Walker, along with appetizers donated by local businesses.

Guests will enjoy a live performance of traditional Fado music by Sónia Bettencourt, accompanied by her guitarists, offering an authentic and immersive cultural experience.

Tickets are $100 and they can be purchased at www.tickettailor.com/events/bostonportuguesefestival

BPF board’s decision to postpone 2026 festival did not come lightly

The Boston Portuguese Festival is known for drawing thousands and showcasing local and internationally renowned Portuguese entertainment as well as Portuguese gastronomy, culture and traditions.

BPF President Daniel Melo said the decision to postpone this year’s event was not a decision that his team took lightly.

“We began working on the 2026 event as soon as the 2025 edition wrapped up,” he said. “When we learned City Hall Plaza wouldn’t be available, the board immediately explored alternative venues. Unfortunately, due to factors like venue size, availability, state regulations, and alcohol restrictions, we were unable to find a location that could support the scale and timing of this event —especially around Portugal Day, which is central to our mission.”

BPF Board focused on strong return in 2027

BPF organizers said they are focused on preparing for a strong return in June 2027.

A fundraising initiative has been launched and the BPF Board is actively accepting sponsors and donations to ensure the event remains free and accessible to all.

“We invite businesses, cultural groups, and individuals to be part of what’s next,” Melo said. “Now is the time to invest in something meaningful.”

The Boston Portuguese Festival Inc. is a registered 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization; therefore, donations are tax-deductible.

For sponsorship opportunities or to contribute, visit the festival’s website at www.bostonportuguesefestival.org or contact a BPF board member directly.
