Gainesville and its surrounding areas have been home to some phenomenal high school athletes over the decades.

And we want to take a look at back at some of the best the area has ever seen. To do so, we need help from our readers.

Fill out the survey! Who are the best high school athletes to come from the Gainesville area?

As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, USA TODAY Sports will celebrate the 250 greatest American sports figures of all time. Alongside that national recognition, the USA TODAY Network will spotlight the roots of the country’s sports culture: the high school athletes and sports figures who shaped communities and defined their states.

We’re starting small as we’ll focus on highlighting the best football, basketball (boys and girls), soccer (boys and girls), baseball and softball players to ever suit up for high schools in Gainesville and Alachua County or its outskirts.

No easy task, right? That’s why we’re looking for help from our readers. Our goal is to narrow down the list to the 10 best high school athletes in those sports with your help!

So if you want to help us out as we embark on this nearly impossible venture, fill out this form if you want your voice heard. We’re looking to highlight those who starred at the high school level. That doesn’t mean we’re excluding future professionals, but we’re hoping to focus on those athletes that first dominated local headlines.

Thanks for your help as we take on this huge task!
