The No. 14 Virginia Tech Hokies entered Sunday in search of their ninth consecutive win. Opposite the Hokies was a Boston College team that Tech had beaten on Friday by a combined score of 25-4 in a doubleheader.

It would prove to be another short day of work for the Hokies, who blasted the Eagles 17-3 to earn a third consecutive run-rule win over BC this weekend.

Tech jumped ahead early, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning when Nora Abromavage hit her 11th home run of the season, second this series, to give VT an early 2-0 lead.

The fireworks would begin in the second inning, though, as the Hokies plated 12 runs to take a 14-0 lead before Boston College even came to the plate a second time. The 12-run second inning tied a school record for the most runs ever scored in one inning.

Rachel Castine hit a two-run double, later followed by a Jordan Lynch three-run blast, which also happened to be her 11th of the season. Directly after Lynch’s home run, Zoe Yaeger hit a solo shot to make it 8-0 Hokies. Kylie Aldridge and Gaby Mizelle each drove in a run, and Addison Foster pushed two more home with a two-run single. Lynch capped off the scoring in the second inning with an RBI double.

Haley Luginbill drove in a run at the top of the third inning, while Lynch drove in another run in the top of the fifth. She finished the day with three hits and five RBI.

The Hokies pitched a bullpen game of sorts, with Emma Mazzarone, who started the first game on Friday, going two perfect innings before making way for Sophie Kleiman, Addyson Fisher and Avery Layton. Kleiman allowed BC’s three runs, while Fisher picked up the win. She is 4-0 on the season.

The Hokies improve to 31-4 this season, including a 7-2 record in ACC play. Virginia Tech is back home on Thursday evening, hosting Clemson at Tech Softball Park in a three-game series.
