Danny Coulombe jumped at the opportunity to join the Boston Red Sox.

Boston made a late roster addition by signing Coulombe to a one-year deal on Thursday. The relief pitcher gives the Red Sox another much-needed left-handed option out of the bullpen.

Coulombe reflected on an easy decision to align with Boston upon arriving at spring training on Friday, as shared by NESN on X.

“I’m really excited,” Coulombe said. “I’ve always loved to pitch at Fenway. There’s so much history there. I mean, it’s Fenway Park. When this was an option, it was a no-brainer.”

The Red Sox would mark the sixth team Coulombe has played for since reaching the majors with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2014. He’s eager to get acquainted with Alex Cora and a locker room featuring former Minnesota Twins teammate Sonny Gray.

“I’ve heard great things about this clubhouse and AC as a manager, so I’m just excited to get going,” Coulombe said.

Coulombe makes an intriguing late acquisition for a Red Sox bullpen that posted an American League-best 3.41 ERA last season. The 36-year-old boasts a 3.35 ERA in 316 2/3 innings, limiting fellow lefties to a .596 OPS.

He struggled at the end of the 2025 season, allowing 11 hits, nine walks and seven runs in 12 innings with the Texas Rangers. Yet Coulombe previously allowed nine walks and four runs in 31 superb innings for the Twins, so the Red Sox may have landed a high-impact southpaw for 2026.
