    USA TODAY High School Sports

    History repeats itself, indeed.

The 2025 girls high school flag football season ends with a familiar team atop the USA TODAY Super 25 rankings, with Central (Phenix City, Ala.) taking the national title honor for the second consecutive year.

It was a highly contested run toward the No. 1 ranking, though, a three-way battle that also included Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.) and JSerra (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.). Both Arizona and California powers also took home postseason championship hardware while going undefeated this year.

How did Central sway the selection process?

In the end, the Red Devils kept pace with the historic 2024 national championship team and outperformed it (which is hard to believe), highlighted by an impressive 840 points scored to only 39 allowed.

The state title win over nationally ranked Vestavia Hills (Ala.) had the largest margin of victory among the three teams’ performances in the final game, followed by Hamilton and JSerra, both of which also took down Super 25 foes. That order also mirrored the season point differentials.

For that, we extend a big congratulations to the Red Devils team, coaches, school, and community on a repeat USA TODAY Sports Super 25 national title.

And we send an equally sincere congratulations to all the teams that appeared in the Super 25 this season, with a Standing O to the top-ranked programs in each sanctioned state: Central (Phenix City, Ala.); Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.); JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.); Mountain Vista (Highlands Ranch, Colo.); Maine South (Park Ridge, Ill.); Greenbrier (Evans, Ga.); and South Anchorage (Alaska).

Super 25 flag football selection process

In partnership with the NFL, the teams are determined by a USA TODAY Network selection committee of editors and writers in the participating, officially sanctioned states and the USA TODAY High School Sports staff.

The process considers factors ranging from last year’s results based on NFHS Network data, carryover into this season, and a primary focus on 2025 records and overall performance. A team’s state ranking influences its national placement, a process that allows editorial expertise and objectivity to blend with the ever-present subjectivity.
