BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Boston College Eagles (12-4, 1-3 ACC) dropped a 3-1 match (28-30, 25-14, 26-28, 25-23) to Virginia Tech (9-6, 1-3 ACC) Sunday afternoon.
Audrey Ross led the Eagles offensive front posting a season-high 22 kills. Danica Rach also recorded a new record for herself with 15 kills, a career high. Lucy Mott guided the offensive effort tallying 48 assists, a career high for the sophomore setter.
The block party was on fire tonight as freshman Bella Ehrlich tallied nine block assists and one solo block, also adding nine kills.
Virginia Tech opened up scoring with a 0-3 run, and the Eagles came out fighting. A 4-0 BC run put the Eagles within 1, trailing 8-7. Despite tying three times, VT maintained the lead. The Hokies held a three-point lead over the Eagles at the media timeout, 15-12. A big solo block from Ehrlich opened up a 4-0 run for the Eagles, tying up again at 16 all. The Eagles and the Hokies tied four more times until a service ace from Ross gave the Eagles their first lead of the match, up 20-19. Coming off of a BC timeout, kills from Roach and Ross lengthened the gap and a block from Ehrlich and Rach sent the Eagles to set point. The Eagles and the Hokies tied four more times, going point-for-point, until Virginia Tech claimed the first set, 30-28.

The Eagles offensive front turned up the heat as kills from Ross (3), Roach (2), and blocks from Ehrlich, Herrington, Roach and Ross pushed the Eagles to a 10-4 run, taking a 20-9 lead. Kills from Rach and Ehrlich accompanied by VT service errors secured the second set for the Eagles, 25-14.

Back-to-back blocks from Ehrlich and Herrington and kills from Ross, Hoppes, Herrington (2) and Rach brought the eagles to the media timeout, leading with a two point advantage, up 15-13. Kills from Rach and Ross assisted the offensive effort but Virginia Tech took the lead, 24-23, forcing another BC timeout. Teams tied up again at 24, 25 and 26, but the Hokies took the third set, 28-26.
