Marcelo Mayer has been called up to the majors! Unfortunately, it’s really only because Alex Bregman got hurt. But better late than never, right? And with the stats he’s put up in Worcester, he looks like he’s at least ready to give the big leagues a try.

With the second of the famed Big Three Prospects (Kristian Campbell, Mayer, and Roman Anthony) now in Fenway with the Red Sox, it makes me wonder: Was Roman Anthony being called up last what we expected? Was Kristian Campbell being called up first what we expected? Did we anticipate everyone coming up at the same time, however unlikely that might’ve been?

I think we all knew the three of them were going to do really well in Triple A, regardless of how long they’d be there before they got called up. There’s been hype around them and their offensive production for a reason. That continues to include Kristian Campbell, who has cooled off since his extremely hot start, but nobody’s yelling for the front office to send him back to Worcester.

Now what if Mayer comes up and does badly? It’s always possible when a rookie makes their debut, but most of the fanbase feels like he’s ready and it was time for him to be in Boston whether someone got injured or not.

And Roman Anthony? His time will certainly come, but the outfield has (knock wood) been in good shape, offensively and defensively. I just don’t think anyone anticipated him being the last of the Big Three to make the bigs.

What do you think? Sound off below.
