The San Francisco Giants tied up some finances with their blockbuster trade for Rafael Devers last week.

So much so that the Richmond Flying Squirrels are feeling it all the way in Double-A — or at least that’s what they’re joking.

“We cannot give you a ball,” a sign in Richmond’s dugout read last week, per the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Colin Beazley. “We just traded for Devers and he costs a lot of $. Foul balls, yes, we can hook you up.”

The Giants acquired Devers for right-handed pitcher Jordan Hicks, left-hander Kyle Harrison, outfield prospect James Tibbs III and right-handed prospect Jose Bello. San Francisco will pay the remaining balance on Devers’ contract, which equates to $254 million through 2033.

Those in Double-A know that’s a serious investment when it considering the price of baseballs.
