BYU Athletics announces Olympic sports jersey patch sponsorship

BYU has a new jersey patch sponsor for several of its Olympic sports.

The university’s athletic department announced that it had reached a multi-year jersey patch agreement with BYU Continuing Education for the school’s Olympic sports programs.

This news comes after BYU football signed a jersey patch deal with tech giant Entrata. More athletic departments across the country are starting to announce deals with companies to generate non-traditional revenue in the NIL era. The Cougars were one of the first to have a deal on the books.

The Big 12 worked out a separate patch deal with Monster Energy, which included branding on basketball courts and football fields starting next year. All 16 member schools will be promoting the brand with an annual kickback from the conference.

Starting with the 2026-27 athletic season, the BYU Continuing Education logo will appear on the competition uniforms for baseball, cross-country, soccer, softball, track and field, and volleyball, according to a press release by the school. As for the other sports, there will be a second phase for golf, gymnastics, swimming and diving, and tennis.

The terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. BYU Continuing Education is a division of the school that offers more than 650 online classes, 1,500 in-person classes and more than 150 annual events every year for the students and community.

“We are grateful for BYU Continuing Education and appreciate this support for our Olympic sports programs,” BYU athletic director Brian Santiago said in a statement. “Our Olympic teams have been nationally relevant for many years, and we look forward to a promising future.”

With the jersey patch sponsorship being new to the college sports landscape, there will be changes over the years. Some of which could be sports specific, like the Entrata deal with BYU football. The basketball program has yet to announce a partnership, but will likely do so before the start of the season.

BYU was one of the first schools around the nation to have deals in place for a jersey patch sponsor. The idea was first pitched by the Ohio State Buckeyes football program and later approved by the NCAA. It’s just one of the latest ideas to drive up revenue outside of the $20.5 million revenue share from the House settlement.

One of the other major considerations revolves around stadium naming rights. The majority of colleges have traditionally frowned at the idea of renaming iconic venues. However, the cost of doing business could mean upwards of $100 million on the books. Not the worst deal to make to steal one from the pro model.
