The Boston Globe’s high school sports photojournalism program, now finishing its third year, is special in many ways … and we have the pictures to prove it.
For one, the program is unlike any other that we know of in the United States. It is open to any high school student in Massachusetts, and costs nothing for them to participate.
Some 200 students from 117 schools enrolled in 2025-26, providing nearly 1,900 photos of an incredibly wide variety.
The best of those from the just-completed school year are on display below.
Of special note, the Globe’s Stan Grossfeld, a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner in photography, helped curate this gallery, personally selecting the Best of the Best for 2025-26. Those pictures were taken by the following high school student photographers:
Aidan Moroney (senior, Concord-Carlisle), Andrew Lavin (senior, Nantucket), Andrew MacDougall (junior, St. Sebastian’s), Austin Kilmartin (eighth grade, St. Sebastian’s), Benjamin Dankwerth (junior, Brookline), Blaine Batkin (ninth grade, Attleboro), Calder Troutman (sophomore, Somerset Berkley), Lincoln Silva (seventh grade, St. Sebastian’s), Madeline Manning (sophomore, Shawsheen Technical), Naomi Castellanos (ninth grade, Boston Latin Academy), Naren Lokam (senior, Bishop Feehan), Nate Havemeyer (ninth grade, Newton North), and Paige Berry (senior, Bishop Feehan).
Get Starting Point
A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday.
Below that, contributions from another 51 students are showcased, selected from the weekly photo galleries published as a complement to the Globe’s online high school sports coverage in 2025-26.
Congratulations to all!
The lead photo above was taken by Paige Berry of Bishop Feehan. She and classmate Naren Lokam are featured a combined nine times here, a product of the Shamrocks advancing to MIAA state title games in football, boys’ basketball, and baseball. In other words, good photographers combined with good sports stories make for great pictures.
Thank you for your readership and support of this program. We look forward to highlighting more great student work in September.
