The AJ Brown trade saga with the Philadelphia Eagles is nearing a conclusion as June 1 rapidly approaches. At the moment, it appears as if the star wide receiver will be a New England Patriot at some point in the near future, with that key deadline approaching.

It’s a shame for the Eagles that their relationship with Brown has gotten to this point, as he is one of the best offensive weapons in all of football when he is on the field. On Sunday, Eagles insider Zach Berman reminded everyone just how good Brown can be when he is available.

“Somewhere in the five months of trade speculation, it’s been lost just how special of a player A.J. Brown is. He’s elite. He can change games. And I don’t think he’s about to fall off the cliff,” Berman wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “If he gives a franchise 2 years of elite production, that’s worth the expected value of a late first-rounder.

“One can understand the dynamics involved that would put the Eagles in the position to trade him without splitting hairs about Brown as a player. He’s special — and I would expect that on the field this season.”

The numbers back up the praise for Brown. The Ole Miss product has eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards in six of his seven NFL seasons, including all four of his years in Philadelphia. During those four seasons with the Eagles, Brown caught 339 passes for 5,034 yards and 32 touchdowns while being near the top of the scouting report for most defenses.

If the Patriots do end up trading for Brown, they will be getting a clear-cut No. 1 receiver for Drake Maye. The Patriots lacked some of that explosiveness at wide receiver last season despite making it all the way to the Super Bowl, and now they are looking to supercharge their offense.

Adding a player of Brown’s caliber on the trade market would do just that and make New England one of the favorites in the AFC heading into the 2026 season.
