The Philadelphia Eagles seem to still be at a standstill when it comes to potentially trading A.J Brown, but it’s obvious which team has interest in the wide receiver. The New England Patriots are the one consistent team that continues to get brought up, and at this point, everyone has a sense of when, not if, Brown gets traded there.
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk recently shared why he thinks it’s the Patriots or no deal for Brown.
“If there was another team pursuing Brown, we’d know about it,” Florio wrote. “The Eagles would have leaked it. The goal would be to pit two teams against each other in the hopes of getting the best possible return.
“As it stands, it’s the Patriots or no one. And with all indications pointing to the Eagles and Brown being beyond the point of no return, Philly’s only play is to make a deal.”
The Jacksonville Jaguars were the only other team that was mentioned in rumors for Brown, and that only lasted for a week. Other than that, it doesn’t look like anybody else plans to make a deal.
“The question is whether another team will swoop in,” Florio wrote. “Even if that happens, it would have to be a team that Brown is comfortable joining. No, he doesn’t have a no-trade clause. Still, no team in its right mind will trade for Brown if Brown doesn’t particularly want to play for that team.”
The rumors have said that the Eagles are waiting until after June 1 to make the trade, and with the date slowly approaching, there may be some movement coming soon.
With the moves that the Eagles have made at receiver this offseason, it feels safe to say that Brown is good as gone, and it’s most likely going to be a reunion with his former coach, Mike Vrabel.
