It appears that head coach Mike Vrabel has stepped in it at the worst possible time for the New England Patriots. The 2026 NFL draft has come and gone without much fanfare for the Patriots’ actual picks. Dominating national airwaves instead has been their head coach’s decision-making off the field. Winning historically washes away all sins in professional sports. A first-place schedule in 2026-2027, earned off their Cinderella run to Super Bowl LX, could make those much-needed wins harder to come by.

Speculations Of Infidelity With NFL Insider Continues To Circle Mike Vrabel

On April 7, The New York Post published photos of Mike Vrabel and former NFL insider Dianna Russini (The Athletic, ESPN) together at the Ambiente, an adults-only resort in Sedona, AZ. In this day and age, any news story is unlikely to keep the attention of readers for more than a day or two, but this story has defied all current news cycles. Here’s how the timeline has played out since Vrabel, Russini, and The Athletic all made refuting statements to the New York Post about the controversy on April 7:

    • April 10: Front Office Sports reports that The Athletic has reopened an investigation into Russini and has sidelined her reporting until its completion.
    • April 14: Russini resigns from The Athletic
    • April 21: Vrabel addresses the media in a press conference, citing “difficult conversations” he’s had with family and the team since the publication of the photos of him and Russini at the Ambiente. After emphasizing that “on and off the field, you have to make good decisions. That includes me,” he declined to provide any further answers to direct questions about Russini.
    • April 22: Vrabel tells ESPN that he will miss day 3 of the NFL Draft due to his commitment to counseling over the weekend.
    • April 23: The New York Post publishes photos of Vrabel and Russini in a New York City bar from 2020. TMZ publishes more photos of Vrabel and Russini in a Mississippi casino from 2024. At a pre-draft presser, Vrabel reaffirms that he will be absent for day 3 of the draft to take further accountability for his actions. Russini deletes her X social media account.
