Tampa, Fla. – The Boston College Softball team opened the Fonseca Memorial Tournament with a 4-2 victory over Kansas at USF Softball Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

The Jayhawks opened the first inning with two quick runs. The Eagles responded in the third with a solo shot from Nicole Riddell. The freshman’s first home run went over the right field fence with ease to cut the deficit 2-1.

BC blew the game open in the sixth inning scoring three in the bottom. With Sammy Horn on, Espinoza reached on a throwing error by the catcher on a sacrifice bunt before coming around to score the game’s winning run, giving the Eagles a 3-2 lead. Abby Ptak and Kiley Buckley followed with hits to keep the pressure on, and Adriana Martinez delivered a sacrifice fly to bring home pinch runner Alyx Rossi for the final insurance run. Halie Pappion then needed just three outs to close it out, as the defense locked in to secure the 4–2 victory.

    GAME NOTES

    • Kiley Buckley extended her on base streak to five games with her double
    • Over three innings, Halie Pappion only allowed one hit with three strikeouts
