Australia Vs Ireland Highlights, T20 World Cup 2026: Ellis And Zampa Power Depleted AUS Side To 67-Run Win Over IRE

Despite being marred by injuries to their spearhead pacers and Mitchell Marsh, Australia have registered an emphatic win by 67 runs over Ireland in their first match of the T20 World Cup. Nathan Ellis and Adam Zampa picked 4 wickets each to break the back of Ireland’s run chase at Colombo.

Eighth wicket down for Ireland as Adam Zampa gets two wickets in the 16th over in the form of George Dockrell and Mark Adair. Zampa first gets Dockrell stumped in the 2nd ball of the over and then gets Adair caught at the long on boundary on the 4th ball.

Lorcan Tucker and George Dockrell have forged an unbeaten 23-run stand for the 6th wicket. However, the chase still looks stiff for them as they need 117 runs more of just 60 balls with only 5 wickets in hand.

Ireland are in a spot of bother against Australia at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo as they have lost four wickets in just under 5 overs and Paul Stirling is injured. AUS have used the change of pace to deceive the Irish batters and have not let them score freely at all.

That’s not the start Ireland would have liked as their most celebrated is making his way back after getting retired out. It seems like Stirling has pulled his hamstring. However, Harry Hector has made his way in while Ross Adair shows intent and smashes Bartlett for a four and a six.

Australia have been able to make in 20 overs on the back of handy contributions from almost every batter. They wasn’t any half-century as no batter could convert starts into a big one but at the end, they got their team to a decent total.

Matthew Humphreys rattles the stumps of Matt Renshaw to break the 61-run stand get the fifth wicket for Ireland. Renshaw departs for 37 and Cooper Connolly joins Stoinis on the crease.

Even though Australia lost the wicket of Glenn Maxwell, Mat Renshaw (24*) and Marcus Stoinis (19*) have forged a 32-run stand for the 5th wicket. They have been able to maintain a healthy run-rate and will look to explode in the last 6 overs.

Australia are going great in terms of run-rate but they have lost their three top batters in the form of Travis Head (6), Jos Inglis (37) and Cameron Green (21). Glenn Maxwell and Tim David are on the crease and they’ll have to carry on with the run-rate while keeping the wickets intact.

Travis Head walked back but Australia continued their onslaught of the Irish bowlers with Josh Inglis going after them. They are going at 11.59 rpo and it seems Ireland need a breather here, or else it could get nasty.
