On Saturday, Curry College’s Montie Quinn put together one of the greatest single game performances by a running back in college football history.
The senior back ran for 522 total yards and seven touchdowns on just 20 carries in a 71-27 win over Nichols College. It was the first time in NCAA history that anyone had even ran for at least 500 yards in a single game.
The previous record was 465 yards, set by Cartel Brooks of Heidelberg University in a game against Baldwin Wallace in 2013.
“I’m just humbled and grateful,” Quinn said after the contest. “Breaking the record is something I never imagined coming into today.
“The O-Line was dominating all game; receivers were blocking like crazy and coaches put us in position to make plays. This belongs to all of us. I just happened to be the one carrying the ball.”

Quinn’s coach Todd Parsons knew how his star running back would respond, understanding Saturday’s achievement was a team-wide effort.
“What Montie did today was nothing short of amazing.” Parsons said. “Breaking the NCAA rushing record is a monumental achievement.
“I think he’d be the first to tell you, records like this don’t happen alone. Our offensive line played lights out, our receivers blocked downfield, and our quarterback made great decisions.”

Quinn, who also tied Curry’s single-game record for rushing touchdowns with seven on Saturday, is no stranger to historic feats.
Ever since coming up to Milton from Goose Creek, South Carolina, the 5′9 back has been setting new program marks.
As a sophomore in 2023, he set the Curry College record for rushing yards in a season with 1,618. The year after that, he did it again, this time with 1,652, earning himself All-American honors in the process.
Now, six games into his senior season, Quinn already has 1,450 yards on the ground to his name.
Over the course of his career with the Colonels, Quinn has also been nearly impossible to keep out of the end zone.
Following Saturday’s win, the senior has 55 career total touchdowns, tied for the most in program history with Raphael Summit. His 53 scores on the ground are the most for a Colonel.
He is also now jut one touchdown away from Curry record for rushing scores in a season which is 18. Quinn’s current 17 are his personal best for a season.
