A cold front is set to bring rain to Massachusetts overnight on Tuesday, leaving the state with cooler temperatures for the rest of the week, according to the National Weather Service.

The precipitation is set to begin first in the Berkshires between 9 and 11 p.m. Tuesday night, the weather service said. The rest of the state isn’t expected to start seeing rain until the early morning on Wednesday.

Areas further west and north are predicted to get showers beginning around 3 or 4 a.m., while communities to the east and south can expect to see precipitation around 5 or 6 a.m., the weather service said. Communities on the Cape and Islands are predicted to be the last to begin experiencing rain, between 9 and 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

The showers are expected to wrap up first in the Berkshires, around 11 a.m., according to the weather service. The rest of Western Massachusetts and much of the central and northern parts of the state are predicted to stop experiencing rain around noon or 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Most of Eastern and Southern Massachusetts can expect to see showers until around 3 p.m., according to the weather service. The Cape and Islands are predicted to keep getting rained on through the late afternoon on Wednesday, with showers ceasing between 5 and 7 p.m.

Overnight lows on Wednesday and Friday night are predicted to dip into the mid to low 40s in Eastern Massachusetts and the low 40s to mid 30s in Western Massachusetts, according to the weather service. Thursday night is expected to be the coldest this week, with lows reaching the mid 30s to low 40s in the eastern and central parts of the state and the mid to high 20s in areas further west.

Thursday is also predicted to be the coolest day in Massachusetts this week, with daily highs reaching the mid to upper 50s across the state, according to the weather service. Friday is expected to be somewhat warmer, bringing high temperatures in the high 50s to low 60s.
