Some 10 months after he landed the job, Kenyatta Watson is no longer the general manager of the Boston College football team.
Watson, who was hired last Dec. 1, said the decision was mutual and declined to comment further on the matter.
In a December interview with the Globe, Watson, a former BC receiver and return specialist from Deerfield Beach, Fla. who played for the Eagles from 1993-96, called it “an honor” to assume the position.
Watson interviewed with former BC football coach Steve Addazio in 2016 and didn’t get the job, then again in 2021 with Jeff Hafley and was in the running before he landed a position at Florida State. He spent two seasons at Auburn as the program’s assistant GM/recruiting before he was hired at BC.
“Third time’s the charm,” Watson said at the time. “Once the interaction began, it was a natural fit. It wasn’t like, ‘Oh my God, they finished 2-10. I’m afraid of that.’ No, I love the challenge.”
The 52-year-old Watson helped the Eagles sign 23 high school players in the Class of 2026. Among the promising transfers Watson helped land were quarterback Mason McKenzie, linebacker Anthony Palano, and defensive end Demetrius Ballard.
The 2027 recruiting class, ranked No. 51 nationally by 247Sports, currently has commitments from 28 players. The list includes Watson’s son, Jett Watson, a three-star cornerback out of Grayson High in Loganville, Ga., who is ranked by ESPN as the No. 114 cornerback in the nation.
BC (2-3, 0-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) will host Pittsburgh (5-1, 2-1) in an ACC clash at Alumni Stadium on Saturday. The Eagles enter the game on the heels of back-to-back conference setbacks at No. 21 Southern Methodist and at home vs. Virginia Tech .
