DALLAS (SMU) – SMU Olympic Sports Performance has been named a 2026-29 NSCA Collegiate Program of Distinction by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), becoming one of the first five collegiate programs in the nation to earn the recognition.
The NSCA Collegiate Program of Distinction recognizes collegiate strength and conditioning programs that meet the organization’s highest standards for program administration, athlete safety, professional development and community engagement. The designation is awarded for a three-year period.
SMU earned the distinction following a comprehensive evaluation of its Olympic Sports Performance program, including program supervision, coaching mentorship, administration, facility management and adherence to NSCA professional standards and guidelines.
The evaluation also recognizes programs for their commitment beyond day-to-day student-athlete performance, including educational opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students, outreach to local K-12 students, professional mentorship and strength and conditioning services for non-traditional campus programs.
In addition, programs must demonstrate established standards for student-athlete orientation and weight room safety, appropriate coach-to-athlete supervision ratios and comprehensive facility management practices designed to provide a safe and effective training environment.
The recognition reflects SMU Olympic Sports Performance’s commitment to providing its student-athletes with an industry-leading training environment while contributing to the continued education and development of strength and conditioning professionals.
