The Boston Bruins are taking their show to Germany, with the Original Six franchise set to play two regular-season games in Munich as part of the 2027 NHL Global Series.
The NHL and NHL Players’ Association announced Friday that Boston will travel to SAP Garden during the 2027-28 season, bringing NHL regular-season hockey to Munich for the first time.
Dates, opponents and ticketing details have yet to be announced.
“The 2027 NHL Global Series games in Germany present an incredible opportunity for the Bruins organization to build on our longstanding connection with fans around the world,” Bruins CEO Charlie Jacobs said.
“We look forward to representing the Bruins and the city of Boston at one of the National Hockey League’s marquee events and engaging with our passionate fanbase in Munich, across Germany and beyond.”
The trip will carry added significance for a Bruins team with several major German connections. Forward JJ Peterka is a Munich native, while fellow forward Lukas Reichel was born in Nürnberg. Head coach Marco Sturm, meanwhile, is the NHL’s first German head coach and was also the first German-born player to suit up for the Bruins.
Sturm remains one of the most prominent figures in German hockey history. He coached the country to a silver medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, Germany’s first Olympic hockey medal since 1976, and played 938 NHL games during his career — the most by a German-born player.
Peterka has also emerged as one of Germany’s leading NHL talents. He has reached 20 goals in three of his four full NHL seasons and represented Germany at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
For Boston, the Global Series will mark its second trip to Europe for regular-season competition. The Bruins opened their 2010-11 campaign in Prague with two games against the Phoenix Coyotes. Their most recent international trip came in 2018, when Boston faced the Calgary Flames in preseason games in Shenzhen and Beijing.
Munich has previously staged NHL activity at SAP Garden, including a 2024 preseason Global Series Challenge between the Buffalo Sabres and EHC Red Bull München. The NHL has continued to expand its presence in Germany, with the league also scheduling Global Series games in Düsseldorf during the 2026-27 season.
