The 2025-26 high school sports season officially came to an end Saturday as the final spring champions were crowned.
Some programs, like Catholic Memorial baseball, AMSA softball, Sandwich girls lacrosse and Wayland boys volleyball ended long droughts or won the first titles in program history. Others, like Taunton softball, Concord-Carlisle girls lacrosse, Scituate boys lacrosse and Brookline boys volleyball, found themselves in the same position they were last year: state champions.
Along with the team accolades were several individual performances that turned the heads of those watching these matchups. Here are some of the best of the best individual performances from state championship week.
Baseball
— In the Div. 1 final, Catholic Memorial’s Liam McKinney threw a complete game on the mound, scattering six hits and allowing just two earned runs while also going 2-for-3 with one RBI in the Knights’ 13-4 victory over Bishop Feehan.
— In the Div. 2 final, King Philip starter Matt Labriola went 6 2/3 innings, allowing just four hits and one earned run and striking out five in the Warriors’ 3-1 win over Milton.
— In the Div. 5 final, Georgetown’s Ty Southill went six innings, allowing just five hits, two runs (zero earned) and struck out five batters. He also hit a two-out, two-RBI triple to tie the game in the top of the seventh, paving the way for the Royals to eventually win 3-2 in eight innings. Also of note, English starter Jaurel Melo went 5 2/3 innings, striking out 14 while allowing zero hits and only two balls put in play.
Softball
— In the Div. 1 final, Taunton’s Bella Bourque went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run and three total RBIs, while Victoria Corrao went 3-for-3 with a solo home run in Taunton’s 11-8 victory over Attleboro.
— McCoy Walsh threw a complete game while allowing just a single earned run — the only run she allowed all tournament — and striking out 12 in King Philip’s 14-1 win over Somerset Berkley in the Div. 2 title game.
— Maddy Karlon drove in two runs and struck out 14 batters to give Maynard a 4-2 victory over Hopedale in the Div. 5 championship.
Boys Lacrosse
— Murphy Belvin and Nathan Rodgers each scored hat tricks to help lead BC High to a 10-9 victory over Lincoln-Sudbury in the Div. 1 championship.
— In the Div. 2 title game, Teddy Hinshaw scored a hat trick to help lead Longmeadow to a 10-5 win over Mansfield.
— Luke Spaulding netted a hat trick to help lead Scituate to a 7-4 victory over Dracut in the Div. 3 championship.
— Gus Greene scored a hat trick, including the game-winning goal in the final seconds, to help lead Cohasset to a 7-6 win over Nantucket in the Div. 4 championship.
Girls Lacrosse
— Sarah Fortier had two goals, including the overtime winner, to lead Concord-Carlisle to a 10-9 victory over Notre Dame Academy in the Div. 1 final.
— In the Div. 2 championship, Ava MacLean scored four goals and added five assists to have a hug hand in Walpole defeating Reading, 12-11.
— In the Div. 3 title game, Avery Regan scored a hat trick and Molly Campbell added two goals to lead Cohasset to a 9-6 win over Norwell.
— Elizabeth Stutzman scored a hat trick to help lead Sandwich to a 9-6 victory over Ipswich in the Div. 4 championship.
Volleyball, Tennis and Rugby
— In the Div. 2 volleyball championship, Finn Bell secured 19 kills while Zachary O’Donnell had 35 assists, two kills and two aces in Wayland’s 3-1 win over Westfield.
— In the Div. 1 boys tennis final, Newton North’s Colin Hwang cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 victory in second singles to add a point to the Tigers’ 3-2 win over Newton South.
— In the Div. 2 girls tennis final, Notre Dame Academy’s won her match 6-0, 6-1 to clinch a point in the Cougars’ 4-1 victory over Bedford. Lirio did not lose a single set in the postseason.
— In the girls rugby state championship, Rebecca Christenson scored three tries to help lead Belmont to a 36-24 victory over Weymouth.
— Marcus Pinto and Michael Conley each had two tries to help lead BC High to a dominant 48-17 win over Milton in the Div. 1 boys’ rugby championship.
