CROMWELL — There is probably no more famous athletic alumnus in Boston College history than Doug Flutie.
You know: the Heisman Trophy, the Hail Mary. And sure, the occasional duff off the tee (as he did to start his round at the Travelers Pro-Am on Wednesday).
So when a new Boston College coach gets an endorsement from Flutie, it can only be a good thing. And that’s exactly what Luke Murray got from Flutie on Wednesday.
“It’s exciting for us, him being a part of what they did at UConn,” Flutie told CT Insider. “Boston College has a lot of challenges when it comes to competing at a top level, with the NIL and this era of college sports. But he’s got a lot of people excited about it at Boston College.”
Flutie hasn’t been on BC’s campus for a little while, so he hasn’t met Murray yet. But he hopes to do so some time this upcoming fall.
In the meantime, Flutie was back at the Travelers Pro-Am, playing in a group with fellow former Patriot Andre Tippett, ESPN’s Chris Berman and new UConn football coach Jason Candle. He’s become one of the fixtures in the annual event.
And sure, he topped his first tee shot, barely reaching 100 yards. But he took a Mulligan and thwacked it down the fairway, to the cheers of the gallery.
