BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Sports practices are resuming at the Baker High School campus this summer after recent shooting incidents.

Helix Community Schools President and CEO Preston Castille stated in a Facebook update that football, basketball, and cheer practices continue on campus as the school works with law enforcement to boost security.

He said three law enforcement units are on campus at all times and announced that the sheriff’s office will join in the fall when students return to class.

“We want to make sure from a law enforcement perspective, from a safety perspective, we have as much in place to ensure that our campus is safe,” Castille said.

Next, efforts shift to increasing community support. Castille said this involves working with local officials such as the mayor’s office to roll out a plan to encourage greater community involvement from families and groups.
