The 2026 World Cup is officially underway, and with so much action happening, there will be many eyes on FIFA’s updated world rankings.
In case you missed it, defending World Cup champs Argentina own the No. 1 spot at the top of FIFA’s June rankings. Argentina moved up two places, leapfrogging Spain. Spain remained unchanged at No. 2, while France, which previously held the top spot, fell to No. 3.
Further down the list, the United States fell one spot to No. 17 globally.
FIFA’s new rankings could come into play in this year’s World Cup tournament, as it is used as the final tiebreaker should two or more teams end up deadlocked following group play.
Of course, while FIFA has its rankings, USA TODAY Sports has some, too. Here are our World Cup power rankings.
