Boston College women’s lacrosse’s run of eight straight trips to the Division 1 final four ended on Sunday afternoon, as host Stony Brook knocked out the Eagles, 10-9, in the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Boston College (10-8), which won national titles in 2021 and 2024 during a run of seven straight berths in the championship game, was unseeded in this year’s tournament. Fifth-seeded Stony Brook (19-2), which knocked out first-time NCAA entrant Stonehill on Friday, raced to a 7-1 lead midway through the second quarter and led, 9-3, two minutes into the second half.

The Eagles battled back, with Kylee Colbert and Leominster’s Giulia Colarusso scoring twice during a 6-1 run that brought BC within a goal with 4:13 to play, but the Seawolves did not allow another shot to prevent the upset.

Colbert had four goals, while Colarusso — whose 40 tied Marissa White for the team lead — had two goals and two assists. Shea Dolce (Darien, Conn.), the IWLCA’s goalkeeper of the year, made seven saves.
