Carp-e diem.
While the Fish were mussel-ing homers, Scituate’s Micke Kostek was sitting down every batter he faced in a 3-0 baseball win over Whitman-Hanson. After striking out 11 and sitting down 21 straight batters, he had lodged the first perfect game in program history.
We’ve got all that, plus a school record at Ursuline, a 300th career lacrosse point, a 400th lacrosse win, an unranked softball team taking out No. 6 Apponequet, and more than enough overtime winners on the lacrosse field.
Friday also marked the release of the Globe’s winter All-Scholastics, which feature 39 athletes of the year, 38 coaches of the year, plus more than 250 All-Scholastic selections, honorable mentions, and hundreds of league all-stars.

▪ After a six-game losing streak from April 6-17 dropped Greater New Bedford softball out of the Top 20, the Bears have turned things around, winning four out of five, including Friday’s 3-2 victory over No. 6 Apponequet. Freshman Akiira-ley Vazquez limited the Lakers to two runs and Olivia Araujo and Brielle Douglas homered.
▪ Marshfield baseball rode a two-run homer from Noah Feldman to a win over No. 20 Hanover.
▪ Unranked Westford has some big boys’ volleyball wins this season, and on Friday it took out No. 8 Newton South, 3-2, behind big days from Bennett Acheson, Ilya Knorr, and Arjun Senthil.
It was a day for overtime winners on the lacrosse field: Senior captain Ryan Hill delivered one in double-overtime for Minuteman, which defeated Greater Lowell, 8-7; Emelie Johnson netted the winner for Barnstable in a 13-12 triumph over Nantucket; Caleb Ford delivered the golden goal for Lexington in an 11-10 victory vs. Belmont; Emma Bettencourt was the hero for Greater Lowell in a 6-5 win over Greater New Bedford; and in a Top 10 showdown, No. 7 Winchester’s Gianni DePrimeo found the net for a 11-10 victory over No. 8 Reading.
On the softball field, No. 3 Joseph Case walked off No. 9 Somerset Berkley when Aubrey Tekippe raced home on a passed ball in the seventh. Tekippe had driven home Mia Caetano for the tying run, after Caetano’s RBI double got the Cardinals within one run . . . Newburyport got 11 strikeouts and a walkoff double in the bottom of the ninth from Clara Thompson, who delivered an 8-7 win over Lynnfield.
We already discussed the Fish family’s offensive eruption, but they weren’t the only siblings to leave the yard Friday. Georgetown’s Victoria Barbarick and Elizabeth Barbarick put on a sisterly show.
