    Great-grandmother graduates from Mt. San Jacinto College in California

    Cheers erupted as 90-year-old Rita Victoria Hernandez received her degree from Mt. San Jacinto College. She’s the school’s oldest student to graduate.

    It’s already that time of year: college move-out season in Massachusetts.

    You may notice the streets of Boston growing busier as graduation ceremonies get underway and college students move out of their dorm rooms for summer break. Moving carts and U-Haul trucks are just part of the ambience.

    The bulk of the moving happens in May, when most local student residence halls close.

    Want to plan ahead? Here’s a list of general move-out dates for Boston-area colleges and universities.

    2026 move-out dates for Boston-area colleges

    This list includes several Boston-area colleges and their publicly listed residence hall move-out dates. Many colleges have exceptions for different circumstances, but these are the main Spring 2026 residence hall closures:

    • Babson College: Undergraduate residence halls close Saturday, May 9
    • Bentley University: Must leave residence halls within 24 hours after last final, or by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 8
    • Berklee College of Music: Must move out by noon on Saturday, May 9
    • Boston Architectural College: Move-out day is Sunday, May 17
    • Boston College: Must move out within 24 hours after last exam, or by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12
    • Boston University: Residents must move out by noon on Saturday, May 9, 2026; graduating seniors can stay until 10 a.m. on Monday, May 18, 2026
    • Brandeis University: Move out within 24 hours after their last final, or by noon on Wednesday, May 13; graduating seniors have until 12 p.m. on Monday, May 18
    • Curry College: Must leave residence halls within 24 hours of last exam, or by noon on Tuesday, May 12
    • Emerson College: Residence halls close on Saturday, May 2, at noon, for students not graduating; close Sunday, May 10, at noon, for those who participated in a graduation ceremony
    • Emmanuel College: Residence halls close on Tuesday, May 5, at 10 a.m.
    • Endicott College: Must move out within 24 hours of last exam, or by 6 p.m. on May 8
    • Harvard University: Undergraduate students must vacate their housing by Sunday, May 17, at noon.; graduating seniors must move out by Friday, May 29, at 12 p.m.
    • Lasell University: Residence halls close on Tuesday, May 12, at noon for all students other than those registered for senior week
    • Massachusetts College of Art and Design: First-year students must move out within 24 hours of last academic commitment, or by Wednesday, May 13, at 7 p.m.; upperclass students move out by Wednesday, May 20, at 7 p.m.; graduating seniors will be given an extension until Friday, May 22, at 7 p.m.
    • Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences: Must move out within 24 hours of last final, or Saturday, May 2, at noon.
    • Massachusetts Institute of Technology: Must move out by Thursday, May 21, at noon; graduating seniors must move out by Saturday, May 30, at 12 p.m.
    • New England Conservatory of Music: Residence hall closes at noon on Monday, May 18
    • Northeastern University: Move out by Saturday, April 25, at 7 p.m. (classes) and 9 p.m. (co-op)
    • Olin College: Residence halls close at noon on Saturday, May 9; graduating seniors must move out by noon on Saturday, May 16
    • Regis College: Undergraduate students must move out by Tuesday, May 5, at 9 p.m.; seniors must move out by Saturday, May 9, at 8 p.m.
    • Simmons University: Residence halls close at noon on Sunday, May 10; residence halls close at noon on Saturday, May 16, for seniors and late stays
    • Suffolk University: Residence halls close at 10 a.m. on the Wednesday after the last day of final exams week
    • Tufts University: Must move out 24 hours after last final exam, or by noon on Saturday, May 9; graduating seniors and graduate students must move out by noon on Monday, May 18
    • UMass Boston: Move out within 24 hours of last final exam, or by the end date of the license agreement
    • Wellesley College: Residence halls close at noon on Saturday, May 9; graduating seniors must leave by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 15
