The Buffalo Sabres claimed a big win over the Boston Bruins on Thursday night. Buffalo owns a 2-1 series lead over Boston in their first-round matchup in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. They got a big-time performance from veteran netminder Alex Lyon in the crease, as well.

Lyon saw some action in Game 2, when the Sabres lost to the Bruins. In Game 3, he received the start. This is his first start since April 4th, though he only saw six minutes of action. This was his first full game since March 27th, a loss to his former team, the Detroit Red Wings.

After Game 3, the journeyman goaltender spoke about how he was able to settle into this game. He pointed to the limited action he saw in the previous contest as a big reason he felt good on Thursday night.

“Getting in for a few minutes (in Game 2) was really helpful,” Lyon said, via NHL.com. “Before that it was probably two weeks since I’ve played, so to get the feel of the game set me up nicely for today. We came in with a great mindset and you could feel it in the room that we were going to send it for 60 minutes, and that’s all you can do.”

“We did a really good job of that and we were engaged right from the start. I felt confident. That’s what you’re searching for, and the team gave me confidence. We played desperately, so it was good.”

The Sabres fell behind on Thursday night when Tanner Jeannot scored in the second period. However, Bowen Byram tied things in the second period. In the third, Alex Tuch scored to give the Sabres the lead, and Noah Ostlund ended it with an empty net marker.

Buffalo and Boston take the ice again on Sunday for Game 4 at the TD Garden in Boston.
