Looking to eat some good food while helping out some good causes? We’ve got you covered.

This week, we’ve gone ahead and highlighted three food-related fundraisers and events around town. Whether you opt to show up for the music or the pancakes or the pizza, the events are all opportunities to aid in the development and fundraising of causes close to the heart.

All the events take place over the next couple of weeks in the Brockton area, so there’s plenty of time to plan ahead.

Wesley Fleming, 4, has a That’s So Cool Shave Ice with his father Andrew Fleming during the the first Fall Friends Fair at the Animal Protection Center of Southeastern Massachusetts in Brockton, with an open house, face painting, pet pumpkin decorating and a pet costume parade on Saturday, Oct, 14, 2023.

Music for Food

On Sunday, April 12, at 2 p.m., the Brockton Symphony Orchestra will host a free concert at the Christ Congregational Church in Brockton (1350 Pleasant St., Brockton). Though anyone is welcome to attend, there is a suggested donation of $25 dollars. The concert is being held to raise funds for The Charity Guild, a Brockton-area food bank non-profit committed to providing “basic and necessary services to those unable to meet their primary needs of food, clothing, and household goods.”

The music itself is designed to be quite accessible. There will be classic pieces from Mozart and Gershwin, but the show will also take guests to Oz: they’ll be playing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and Wicked’s “Popular” as well.

Book Sale + Wood-Fired Pizza

Brockton’s Animal Protection Center is holding a fundraiser of their own on Friday, April 10. The event kicks off a string of fundraisers the center has planned over the weekend at 1300 W Elm St. Ext. in Brockton. It’s a book sale and pizza night, so it’s pretty self-explanatory. But there will be a large selection of gently used books for sale as well as wood-fired pizza from Easton’s Longwater Farm.

Over the weekend, though, the fundraising will continue. The center will host book and bake sales on Saturday, April 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., as well as a Sunday sale from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Earth Day Pancakes

Perhaps more of a celebration than a fundraiser, but on Friday, April 17, at 6 p.m., the Central Square Congregational Church, at 71 Central Sq., Bridgewater will be hosting a pancake dinner to celebrate Earth Day. The event is free for those under 4 years old, $5 for those aged 4-17, and $10 for those older than 17. For families, you can also pay $25 to cover food for the whole lot.

The church is accepting both volunteers and donations. To make a reservation at the pancake dinner, visit csccucc.org/events.
