Patriots Icon Julian Edelman Posts Photos to Commemorate Historic Falcons Super Bowl on ‘3-28 Day’

Legendary New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman took to social media on Saturday to commemorate the Pats’ comeback win over the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI at the conclusion of the 2016 season.

The Patriots won the game 34-28 in overtime, famously overcoming a 28-3 deficit. Since Saturday is March 28 (3/28), it has become a day of celebration for Patriots fans over the years:

Edelman was one of several heroes for the Pats in Super Bowl LI, finishing with five receptions for 87 yards.

No catch was bigger than the miraculous, diving grab he made for 23 yards on what proved to be New England’s game-tying drive late in the fourth quarter:

In overtime, running back James White rushed for a two-yard touchdown to complete the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history and give the Pats their fifth Super Bowl win in franchise history.

Quarterback Tom Brady won his fourth of five career Super Bowl MVP awards and his last with the Pats by virtue of throwing for 466 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

As for the Falcons, the loss continues to haunt them, as they haven’t come anywhere close to a Super Bowl win since then.

They returned to the playoffs the following year, but they lost in the NFC Divisional Round, and they have since missed the playoffs in eight consecutive seasons.

Super Bowl LI would have marked the first Super Bowl triumph in Falcons history, but instead, it was another chapter written in the Patriots’ dynasty.
