Two of the Downriver area’s top high school girls soccer programs in recent years met up for a big early-season clash Wednesday night when New Boston Huron hiked its way over to Trenton.

Huron came in looking to make it back-to-back wins this week overall after dropping its season opener back on March 19. Trenton meanwhile was hoping to avoid an 0-2 start to the spring after falling in its first game of the season on March 20.

No stranger to facing each other in big-time games, the two programs have squared off the district portion of the Division 2 state playoffs in three of the last four years. That included a 3-0 shutout win for Huron in last year’s postseason en route to the state championship game.

In what was a bit of an early statement locally, the reigning state runner-up and preseason No. 10-ranked Chiefs from Huron used a big first half to cruise to an eventual 6-1 win over the host Trojans from Trenton.
