The Boston Red Sox have been involved in various trade rumors this offseason, but one insider doesn’t believe a trade scenario involving outfielder Jarren Duran is likely to happen.

According to Ian Browne of MLB.com, Boston isn’t expected to deal Duran to the Houston Astros in exchange for infielder Isaac Paredes.

“I don’t see the Red Sox trading Duran for Paredes,” Browne wrote. “It’s not an even swap. Duran is one of the most dynamic players in the league when he’s right. And there are indications that some of the work he did on his swing and setup in the offseason could get him closer to 2024 levels than what he did in ‘25.”

Duran has been very good at parts throughout his career, but has also been a bit inconsistent at times. When he’s at his best, he brings game-changing talent to the Red Sox lineup that few players around the league can replicate.

However, when he’s struggling, he’s very replaceable.

Browne’s comments suggest Boston still views Duran as a key piece of its core rather than a player the team is looking to move on from. If his season can be anything like much of 2024, the Red Sox will be a better team in this campaign because of it.

Paredes would be a fun player to add, but he isn’t needed right now.
