MIAMI –  Boston College Baseball (9-6, 2-1 ACC) defeated Miami (12-4, 1-2 ACC) on Sunday afternoon, 9-5, to earn the Eagles’ first-ever series win on the road against the Hurricanes.

Brady Miller went three innings, giving up one earned run while striking out four. Jacob Burnham replaced Miller but was quickly replaced after only getting one out and giving up four runs, three earned. John Kwiatkowski came on in relief and threw one and two-thirds innings of scoreless ball and only gave up three hits. Kyle Kipp then closed the game out as he threw four innings of shutout ball while only giving one hit and striking out three.

The Hurricanes got the scoring started in the first inning for the third straight game when a single brought in a runner from third, but Boston College caught the runner advancing and got out of the inning.

In the second inning, the Eagles took the lead for the first time when, after Jack Toomey led off the inning with a double to left field, Esteban Garcia drove him in from second to tie the game at one. Boston College tacked on a second when Cesar Gonzalez grounded out to short to bring in Garcia, who had advanced to third.

In the top of the fourth, the Eagles would add three more runs courtesy of Gonzalez’s first career home run, which was a three-run shot to left field that brought in Luke Gallo and Danny Surowiec.

In the bottom half of the fourth, Miami would tie the game up with four runs of its own. The first came off a solo shot to left field. Burnham would get one strikeout before putting runners at second and third, who would then score when the Hurricanes roped a single to left field that scored both and made it 5-4. Miami would get one more on a single to center that scored a runner from third, which tied it all at five.

Boston College would retake the lead for good in the top half of the next inning when Gallo knocked a single into left field that scored both Garcia and Toomey to put the Eagles ahead 7-5.

Boston College added an insurance run in the eighth when Nick Wang added his second home run of the series and fifth of the season when he hit a solo shot to left field. The Eagles made it 9-5 at the top of the ninth when Esteban Garcia hit a sacrifice fly to deep left field that brought in Julio Solier from third.

Kipp came out for the ninth inning and went 1-2-3, including a strikeout looking to end the game.

Up Next: The Eagles will return to action on March 10th when they travel to UConn to take on the Huskies at 3:05 p.m.
