Tom Brady believes the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup could mark a turning point for soccer in the United States. The former NFL star called the expanded tournament “incredibly exciting” and highlighted its impact on fans, players, and the sport’s growth across North America. With the U.S. serving as co-host, Brady sees a rare opportunity on home soil.

Tom Brady shares his excitement for 2026 FIFA World Cup

Tom Brady highlighted how massive the upcoming tournament will be. The 2026 FIFA World Cup expands to 48 teams for the first time. The event will stretch across the United States, Mexico, and Canada, covering 16 host cities. Brady attended the World Cup draw in December and stressed that the larger format opens the door to more nations.

“It was great to be a part of the FIFA draw, but just to know that there are 48 countries now participating in the World Cup in all of North America is incredibly exciting because it just means more inclusion, more countries, more fans,” He added that hosting the event in America gives players a massive platform. “And the fact that they’re able to do that in America and showcase it on the biggest stage is absolutely incredible,” the quarterback said (via Fox Sports).

Brady is not new to soccer circles, as he is a minority owner of Birmingham City FC. The retired sportsman recently attended an AC Milan match and received a custom No. 12 jersey. He also pointed to the steady rise of the sport in the U.S., crediting the success of the United States women’s national soccer team, which has won four Women’s World Cups and five Olympic gold medals.

“I think there’s always been a huge appetite for soccer in America,” Brady said. He also mentioned youth participation and the buzz around Inter Miami CF, where Lionel Messi plays. The men’s national team is looking to bounce back after bowing out in the Round of 16 in 2022 and coming up short at the 2024 Copa America. The 2026 World Cup will give them their next big shot when it kicks off on June 11.
