What the Jan. 25, 2026 snow storm looks like in Providence’s West End

Cars lined Dexter Park and around the Cranston Street Armory as snow piled up during the Jan. 25, 2026 storm.

    • A significant nor’easter is forecast to impact Massachusetts from Sunday into Tuesday.
    • A winter storm watch is in effect, with some areas potentially seeing blizzard conditions.
    • Snowfall totals could range from 10 to 17 inches, with wind gusts as high as 60 mph.
    • The heavy, wet snow brings a risk of power outages across the state.

After a week of uncertain forecasts, it’s now looking certain that Massachusetts is in line for a “significant” nor’easter starting Sunday and lasting into Tuesday.

A winter storm watch is in effect from Sunday afternoon through Tuesday morning with a warning, for a storm predicted to drop up to 14 inches of snow in parts of Massachusetts.

“Blizzard conditions possible,” a watch including southeastern Massachusetts said. “Total snow accumulations between 10 and 17 inches possible. Winds could gust as high as 60 mph.”

A less severe winter storm watch has been issued for the rest of the state, warning of heavy snow but not blizzard conditions. Predictions call for 6 to 15 inches of snow, and wind gusts as high as 50 mph.

The snow is expected to be wet and heavy, making power outages a possibility.

The storm was been difficult to track for meteorologist with uncertainty about if it would head out to see, but now it seems more certain southern New England will feel the brunt of it.

“The area of highest snowfall and greatest impacts is still somewhat uncertain, but a widespread high-impact event appears more likely with the latest forecast cycle,” the forecaster discussion said.

Here’s what to expect in Massachusetts.
