PONCE, P.R. – Boston College Baseball (1-1) fell to Houston (2-0) on Saturday afternoon at the Puerto Rico Challenge, 5-1.
Sean Hard started for the Eagles in his first appearance for Boston College since March 2024. He threw two innings, giving up one hit while striking out one. He got out of the second with the Eagles’ second double play of the season, turned by Sean Martinez, Julio Solier, and Nick Wang.
The Cougars scored the game’s first run in the top of the third with an RBI single off of freshman Luke D’Ancona, who had replaced Hard.
In the bottom half of the inning, Boston College responded when Ty Mainolfi hit a single to short center field that brought in Carter Hendrickson from second.
Houston retook the lead in the top of the fourth with an RBI double that brought in two runs for the Cougars to make it 3-1. Houston then tacked on two more runs in the seventh and ninth to make it 5-1. They kept the Eagles off the board from the third inning on, with Boston College not getting a runner past second base after Hendrickson scored in the third.
