PONCE, P.R. – Boston College Baseball (1-0) defeated Seton Hall (0-1) in the final game of the evening at the Puerto Rico Challenge on Friday night, 6-4.

A.J. Colarusso started for the Eagles and threw four innings while giving up two runs. After a long first inning, in which the Pirates put up two unearned runs on Colarusso, he settled down to record five strikeouts.

Seton Hall continued to hold Boston College at bay until the fifth inning when Carter Hendrickson knocked a double down the left field line, which drove in Julio Solier, who had singled earlier in the inning. Hendrickson then stole third, which was his second of the evening, and came in to score on a sac fly by Nick Wang. One batter after he doubled and stole third, Ty Mainolfi put the Eagles ahead 3-2 when he scored on a wild pitch.

Cesar Gonzalez came on for Colarusso in the bottom of the fifth and struck out his first two batters before giving up a two-run home run, which restored the one-run advantage for Seton Hall.

Both teams traded zeros in the sixth, and at the top of the seventh, Hendrickson connected on his second double of the game and was brought in immediately after by Wang. Boston College then loaded the bases with one out, before Jack Toomey brought in Wang on a sac fly.

Gavin Soares came in for relief of Gonzalez with one out in the bottom of the seventh and escaped a first and third when the Eagles turned the game’s only double play. Wang knocked in his game-high third RBI of the game when he hit his second sac fly of the evening to score Solier in the top of the eighth.

Soares wrapped up the game for Boston College in the ninth by striking out his final two batters of the night.

Up Next: The Eagles will return to action tomorrow afternoon when they take on Houston at 1:30 p.m. AST in Ponce, Puerto Rico.
