Regional supermarket chain Big Y announced plans to open four new grocery locations in Massachusetts over the next two years.
The new stores are expected to open on the state’s North Shore, South Shore, and the South Coast, “underscoring Big Y’s dedication to serving more communities across the region,” the company said in a statement.
The expansion announcements follow the grand opening of a Big Y store in Uxbridge earlier this fall. Founded in Chicopee in 1936, the company now operates more than 80 locations across Massachusetts and Connecticut.
Here’s where and when the four upcoming Big Y stores are set to open.
Where will the 4 new Big Y stores be located?
Here’s where the newly announced Big Y stores will be located, according to the grocery store chain:
- Pembroke: 24 Mattakeesett St. (Former Stop & Shop)
- Saugus: 357 Broadway (Formerly planned Amazon Fresh)
- Fairhaven: 7-9 Plaza Way (Former Big Lots)
- North Dartmouth: Faunce Corner Center (Former Christmas Tree Shops)
When are the Big Y stores expected to open?
The Big Y location in Pembroke is expected to open in the spring or summer of 2026, taking over the 38,000-square-foot space left vacant by Stop & Shop, the company said.
The Saugus store is also slated to open in the spring or summer of 2026, returning to its former location. An Amazon Fresh had been planned for the 46,000-square-foot site but never opened, allowing Big Y to move back into its previous space.
In Fairhaven, a new 62,000-square-foot Big Y store is expected to open in the spring of 2027 at the site of the former Big Lots, the company said.
Finally, the Dartmouth store at Faunce Corner Center, which will span 55,000 square feet in the former Christmas Tree Shops, is slated to open in the spring or summer of 2027.
Details about the stores’ grand openings and staff hiring will be announced in the next few months, Big Y said.
