Amid the Bruins’ blowout victory over the Rangers on Saturday afternoon, Boston lost two top-six forwards over the course of the game.

Boston’s leading goal-scorer Morgan Geekie exited the game after the first period of play and did not return, with the Bruins announcing that Geekie left to attend to a family matter.

Boston’s top-line center Elias Lindholm also left Saturday’s game late in the second period with a lower-body injury.

Speaking after Boston’s eventual 10-2 win over the Rangers, Marco Sturm said that Geekie could be a game-time decision for Sunday evening’s home game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

“Geeks had a family emergency, so he had to leave,” Sturm said. “But it’s all good. We have to watch him to see if he comes back tomorrow.”

Geekie has been a key cog in Boston’s lineup this season. Even though he hasn’t scored a goal in nine-straight games, Geekie still leads Boston with 25 goals over 45 games this season. He logged one shot on goal across 6:14 of ice time in the first period of Saturday’s win.

As for Lindholm, Sturm deemed his exit as more precautionary than a sizable setback for the veteran forward.

“With Lindy, we just want to make sure,” Sturm said. “We were up a bit. He has some nagging issues. He’ll probably be a game-time decision tomorrow.”
